António Cardoso e Cunha, President of the Board of Directors of TAP SGPS, participates today, the 27th of January, and in the scope of the company’s adhesion to “Global Compact”, in the first meeting of the directors of the French companies who signed the letter of principles for “Global Compact”, to take place in Paris, in the presence of the President of the French Republic and United Nations Secretary.
Officially launched in July 2000, in the United Nations Headquarters, “Global Compact” is an international initiative resulting from the proposition of the General Secretary for the United Nations, Kofi Annan, made in the course of the World Economic Forum last year.
Comprising companies in around 40 countries, “Global Compact” is based on a letter of principles which aim to promote the civic and social responsibility of the great number of organizations in the different activity sectors worldwide, the aim of which is to contribute to a more viable and more open world economy.
Constituting a landing based on principles destined to promote institutional apprenticeship, through transparency and dialogue conducing to the identification and spreading of good practices, “Global Compact” is neither a regulating instrument nor a behaviour code. It is mainly a valuable contribute to the edification of social and environmental pillars necessary to a new sustained world economy in which globalization is a reality equally shared by all people.
