As part of the initiative “I’m a Fashion Addict of ARTEH® Hotels!”, we publish the interview to the Portuguese fashion designer Nuno Gama.

Get to know Nuno Falls's motivations, the latest tendencies, the world of Fashion and a deluxe experience in the historical atmosphere of the Convento do Espinheiro, an ARTEH® Hotel in Évora.

What do you think of the initiative launched by ARTEH® - Hotels and Resorts, “I'm a Fashion Addict of ARTEH® Hotels!”?

I believe it to be an excellent way of promoting the best of our country, insofar as we are gathering strengths and at the same time it distinguishes us from everybody else.

In your opinion is there a link/connection between fashion and charm hotels?

I believe that Fashion is more and more everywhere, for it is done by people who experience the marvelous adventure that is life, that is revealed in our lifestyle and in everything which involves people of good taste searching for a good or new leisure experience.

Do you believe that fashion designers should participate more in the decoration of our hotels? Of course these are different areas, but when the fashion designer creates or promotes a tendency for clothing in a certain season, can he not widen it to the decoration of spaces, in this case hotels?

As much as possible, even if only as a mere opinion maker. Fashion tendencies are the mirror of our global life, today fashion is everywhere, in cell phones, cars, trips, everything.  Increasingly, people want to live surrounded by style, even in low-cost experiences they want to feel special and luxurious.

As you know before the Farol Design Hotel opened its doors, it did something of unheard of in our country, it invited several fashion designers to decorate its rooms. Do you agree with this approach? From your point of view could fashion designers/designers do more for boutique hotels in Portugal?

I believe that in Portugal we work with our backs turned to one another too often, and that our final results can only gain from the richness of different experiences.

Regarding hotel tendencies, more and more people search for native products, authentic and national products. That is, they want to come to Portugal, and find a hotel that breaths Portugal and not something standard that they could find in Paris or New York. Do you see yourself contributing towards the decoration of a hotel project made in Portugal?

Certainly yes, my work is live proof of the concept, that I always believed in and defended.  Nobody wants what they already have, the human being has need of the new, of the different to spice their lives.

Continuing with the tendencies. Green care is without a doubt a tendency that came to stay. How does this concern affect your work?

It affects everyone´s life and the work, from waking to sleeping, because garbage collectors pass at night to collect our refuse. Already we have injured our planet too much, we are and we will be paying the price for a long time. It is up to each one of us to decide what legacy we want or not to leave for the future generations.

Did you enjoy your stay in the ARTEH® Hotel - Convento do Espinheiro?

I really liked it, with a highlight on how pleasantly everybody received us, I recommend that you include something more light in your menu, which is currently full of aggressive caloric delicacies.

What did you like most, during your stay in the hotel?

The pleasantness of the people.

What is your opinion about the hotels decoration? What sensations or emotions were awakened?

I am sorry it is not very typical Alentejo and expected that it were more "evasive" and less heavy. 

What are your sources of inspiration or places that stimulate your creativity, during the creation of a new collection?

Everybody, as long as they are authentic and surprise me.

How can we define the Nuno Gama style?

Portuguese, authentic, contemporary young spirit and with sense of humor.
