Itinerary in Lisbon by ARTEH® - Part 2
27 Sep 2012

Now at the beginning of autumn, we award all of ARTEH®’s fans, with the second part of the Lisbon Tour. We begin our suggestions on the banks of the river Tejo.

The first suggestion is Altis Belém Hotel & SPA, a contemporary design hotel in Belém with a magnificent view over the river Tejo. Here, try an evening at 38º 41’ bar with a Mojito (the house speciality).

After refreshing your palate, opt for a visit to Torre de Belém, a World Heritage site, Padrão dos Descobrimentos and Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, and then savour a gastronomical treat, the famous Belém custard tarts, covered with sugar and cinnamon.

Back in the city centre, smack in the middle of Avenida da Liberdade, discover the big fashion brands such as Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana or Louis Vuitton and our hotel suggestions.

Situated in the centre of Lisbon city, the new Hotel Aviz now has a modern and attractive architectural style, but with the charm of a classical and timeless decoration. From past memories its atmosphere, class and tradition of hospitality were kept. Enjoy the hotel’s cosy environment and try the famous Restaurante Aviz, which presents new culinary experiences, always accompanied by the best wine selection and service.

Take advantage to visit the Portuguese film institute (Cinemateca Portuguesa) or the Casa-Museu Medeiros de Almeida.

With another kind of ambiance and decoration, we advise you to take refuge in the Hotel Britania, whose decoration is art-deco, an international design movement that flourished from 1925 to 1939, influencing the decorative arts, architecture, interior and industrial design, as well as fashion, painting, graphic arts and cinema.

Another excellent alternative is Hotel Lisboa Plaza, inaugurated in 1954, and another icon of the best Lisbon hospitality. A small nook known by its warm welcome and the comfort it transmits to its guests. The decoration was the responsibility of the famous interior designer Graça Viterbo.

At Largo da Anunciada we can visit the Heritage Av Liberdade, a luxury hotel easily recognizable by its blue 17th Century facade. Behind the recuperation project is the Portuguese architect Miguel Câncio Martins, famous for his interventions in Buddha Bar in Paris, Strictly Hush in London and Man Ray in New York.

At this cosmopolitan space, we suggest a gathering or a ladies night out, tea to accompany some biscuits or toast, uniting work and pleasure. In case you are staying at the hotel, don´t forget to ask for one or more tickets for the Elevador da Glória the hotel is offering, which takes you on a short journey up to the Bairro Alto. If you like theatre, a few minutes’ walk away is the famous Tivoli and D. Maria II theatres.

In Ajuda, you may also discover a five star hotel in a 19th Century palace, the Pestana Palace Hotel & National Monument, a hotel classified as a National Monument. Its connections to France influenced the building’s decoration, with styles dating from the epoch of Luis XIV, Regency, Luis XV and Luis XVI, creating a surprising historical environment.

We recommend the Valle Flôr restaurant, recipient of several awards, the latest one being the "Three Forks" in the Signature Cuisine category, where it was classified amongst Lisbon’s six best restaurants.

Visiting Lisbon is always a good motive for those who seek a cultural, dynamic and cosmopolitan city where every small space is full of history. Choose Lisbon for a city-break!
