Lufthansa’s electronic airline ticket – etix – is increasingly popular due to the great advantages it offers: it is practical, flexible, may be booked on short notice, does not require a deposit tax, the tax for issuing an etix costs 20 € less than the one for a traditional paper ticket, it doesn’t have to be sent out or picked up, and most importantly it can’t be forgotten anywhere, nor lost.
The success of the etix is measured by its usage rate. In Germany, for example, over 57% of the tickets are issued electronically. Last November, 88% of domestic tickets issued in Germany were etix, as well the 60% of those issued for Europe, and 26% of the intercontinental tickets. Lufthansa aims to issue only electronic tickets by the end of 2007. |
