The Festival de Jazz da Alta Estremadura (FJAE – Alta Estremadura Jazz Festival); will take place in Leiria and Marinha Grande, between the 24th of September and the 9th of October. This edition has been dedicated to the saxophone.
The line-up, once again Pedro Moreira is in charge of the artistic direction, highlights Dave Holland and his quintet as well as renowned national jazz artists.
Amongst other international presences, special attention should be given to the WHO Trio (Wintsch, Hemingway e Oester) and saxophonist Ravi Coltrane’s quartet.
Nine Portuguese saxophonists will also be present at the FJAE: artists like Jorge Reis, Mário Santos (with José Pedro Coelho and Rui Teixeira), Carlos Martins, and the acclaimed Quarteto Saxofínia (Alberto Roque, José Massarrão, José António Lopes and Mário Marques).
Reference should also be made to the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra, with their original songs project, assigned to perform the opening of the festival.
Part of the FJAE programme also includes a workshop with Pedro Madaleno (guitar) and João Moreira (trumpet) and the re-edition of a Project exclusive to this festival: the Orquestra do Festival de Jazz da Alta Estremadura (OFJAE – The Alta Estremadura Jazz Festival Orchestra), which this year will hold two concerts with guests. The prices of tickets range from 3 euros to 15 euros. |
