White Night in Rome - Italy
01 Sep 2006

On the 9th of September Rome celebrates the White Night, an extraordinary event that involves the whole city, including the biggest museums, the largest cultural organizations, private and public, as well as sport facilities. The objective is to have places of cultural expression open during the night to keep the city moving and so public transports will prolong their schedules and will be free from 22h00.

Over 1.000 artists will be involved in over 100 events carried out around the city, distributed through cinemas, museums, art galleries and cultural institutions, who promise to keep their doors open. This night will involve the most emblematic cultural symbols of the city such as the Colosseum, the Borghese Gallery, the Capitoline and Napoleonic Museums, Palazzo Braschi and Palazzo Farnese, amongst others, all open during the night with free entry.

In Rome ARTEH® – Hotels and Resorts suggests Hotel Lord Byron for your special White Night.

About White Night

The great international event, Rome's “Notte Bianca” will be held from 8 P.M. of September 9th to 8 A.M. on Sunday September 10th, sponsored jointly by the Municipality of Rome and by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture in Rome, in cooperation with the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Latium Region and the Municipality of Rome's Treasury Banks - the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro, the Banca di Roma and the Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

Once again Rome will experience this really unique occasion, attracting large numbers of tourists and involving all the city's inhabitants, an opportunity for discovering this city and its treasures, but also for an encounter with culture in its most varied expressions. Past editions of “Notte Bianca” were a great success, bringing thousands of visitors to every corner of the capital. Streets, squares, art locations, museums, theatres, villas, cinemas and shops were transformed into as many stages for events, giving life to a unique collective experience emphasizing all Rome's artistic and cultural vitality.

This year too Rome will be open from the centre to the suburbs, throughout the night to solidarity, art, cinema, theatre, music, sport and shopping, in an unusual atmosphere in which daily gestures assume the quality of an event in a festive and culturally curious context; at the same time drawing its inhabitants attention to social issues.
