For 2007 Oporto will host the 27th edition of Fantasporto between the 19th of February and the 4th of March, at the Rivoli City Theater highlighting the Greek and Russian cinema starting from the 50’s.
One of the main retrospectives of the Russian classics will present a number of films, given by Mosfilm Studios, from Andrei Tarkoski amongst which the biography of the Russian painter Andrei Rublev (1969) and The Mirror (1975), two of the most outstanding Russian films of the 50’s.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Greek Culture through the Greek Film Centre, the cinematography will be on the spotlight during the 2007 edition. The focus will be on the 60’s and 70´s, the golden years that reflect a modernizing society, 100 years after the first footage of Macedonia by the Manakia brothers, Jonh and Miltiades, and the first film of the non Official Olympic games by the French producer Leons. Another retrospective will pay homage to the French producer Marin Karmits, who produced films such as Code Unconu by Michael Hanneke, featuring Juliette Binoche, and La Femme est L’Avenir by Sang-Soo Hong, both presented at Canne. These will be sponsored by the Ministry of French Culture with the support of the French Consulate in Oporto, along with other French productions from May 1968 to the date. On the long run, the goal is to increase the sales of some of the best films presented during FANTASPORTO, as is done with films presented in other international film festivals arould the world. The organization expects to start working with distributors in September in order to achieve the goal.
There will be other events running during the festival such as exhibitions, workshops, debates, presentations, amongst others. The 4th of March is the closing date, marked by the Vampire Ball at Sá da Bandeira Theater.

About Porto
Bold and traditional, proud and joyful are what characterize the second largest city of Portugal, Oporto. It has a magnificent natural setting on the north bank of the River Douro, just a few miles inland from its opening to the Atlantic Ocean Birth place of Port Wine and home of the most fascinating historical architecture to stand until this date, Oporto offers an excellent opportunity to travel through time.
The historic center of Oporto presents a priceless urban view dated back to the Roman and Medieval era. The diversity is truly inviting, giving you the chance to discover an open air monument museum rich in Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, Barroca, Neoclassic and Modern architecture
By summer 2001 there were six fixed bridges over the Douro River at Oporto, within less than a 10km stretch of the river. In location sequence, starting upstream, the first to be encountered is the Freixo Bridge, which is not visible from the Ribeira, Oporto's central river-front, as the river bends to the south just east of the city-centre.
Following are the two contrasting railway bridges of S. João and Dona Maria Pia, followed by the new concrete road bridge. The sequence is completed by the majestic double span of the D.Luís Bridge and, finally, by the elegant arch of the Arrábida road-crossing.
Part of a seventh bridge survives, for just downstream of the D. Luís are the partial remains of the columns which supported the Ponte Pensil, the slender suspension bridge which preceded the 1866 structure.
