The best contemporary minimalist musician is in Portugal until the 10th of December, on a 7 concert tour around the country. It is the opportunity to hear his latest album, “Partes extra partes” that marks a quarter century career.
Known for his unusual falset pitch that verbalizes an imaginary and made up language, and expertise on the piano, Wim Mertens has edited over 36 albums since his first release “For Amusement Only”, an electronic piece put together by pinball machines.
Mertens has also composed over 20 films (the first of which was “The Belly of an Architect” by Peter Greenaway) and three theatre pieces. His vast portfolio also includes an album for guitars “Sin embargo” (1997), curiously the first instrument the composer ever discovered, at the age of 8, through which he reveals a rare sensibility.
Wim’s first live album, “Epic that never was”, was registered in 1993, in Lisbon at S. Luis theatre, exactly where he will be performing on the 10th of December, ending the tour in Portugal.
All concerts will be solo performances, with Mertens on the piano or accompanied by the violinist Gudrum Vercampt.
