Experience luxury and seclusion in the private atmosphere that characterizes Quinta do Rio Touro in Sintra. Although Quinta do Rio Touro is a family owned bed and breakfast picturesque Manor House where peace, serenity and relaxation dominate the accommodation experience, guests also have the chance to be in a working organic farm. They may pick their own oranges straight from the trees or try the products from the ground or straight off the vineyards.

An excellent option for a quiet weekend or entire season awaits the astute traveller. Quinta do Rio Touro is part of Sintra and Cascais’s Natural Park, which is classified as a World Heritage Site. The Manor House is conveniently situated between the historic centre of Sintra and the picturesque town of Cascais, along the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon is close enough for an effortless travel, giving you quick access to art, culture and all the other attractions of a large European capital.

Quinta do Rio Touro owners, Gabriela and Fernando Reino, are now retired from a diplomatic career in serving Portugal. Guests are made to feel at home and may be welcomed in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish.

The accommodations at the Quinta do Rio Touro are flexible enough for families and friends. The Main House offers private bathrooms for each bedroom, central heating, fireplaces, common areas, satellite television and a smoke-free environment. The common areas are available for all Quinta do Rio Touro’s guests and include a living room with fireplace, a terrace leading to the upper garden, open-air dining, a swimming pool and changing area, restrooms, a sauna and an exercise room. Both houses are filled with antiques and treasures from the Reino’s diplomatic travels.

The Guest House is in a valley about 100 meters from the Main House and is available to rent, as one unit or as suites. It stands among the Quinta’s organic agricultural crops. The quietness and tranquillity lead many guests to walk among the flowers, vegetables and fruit trees.

When the land of Quinta do Rio Touro was purchased in 1994, it had been abandoned and was overrun with wild vegetation. On the property were ruins of consecrated buildings, some of which have been restored, whereas the main house and guest house maintain the original traditional architecture of the area.

Every guest will find what they seek in a Quinta do Rio Touro experience, whether it’s ecologic, cultural or artistic. The agricultural production is certified organic and food may be consumed right from the farm as it is naturally fertilized and produced without pesticides.

Guests are welcome to participate in any of the daily farm work. The landscape at the Quinta do Rio Touro includes plantations of thousands of lime and pine trees, and there are many native specimens for the bird or flower enthusiast.
