World Press Photo, the world's most prestigious photography competition, visits the Museo di Roma, during May.
Every year works by the competition winners and runners-up go into a large touring exhibition that visits over 40 countries and around 70 galleries across the world. The images also appear in the World Press Photo Yearbook, a publication which provides a fascinating and often poignant record of world events over the past 12 months.
The competition is Dutch-based and organized, with award ceremonies in Amsterdam attended by representatives of the world's major media companies. The traveling exhibition begins the next day, bringing the cream of the year's work to countries around the world.
