Solar do Castelo Presents Archaeological Findings
31 May 2007

Solar do Castelo, ARTEH® Hotel in Lisbon – Portugal, created a small museum in the old rainwater tank that once belonged to the Portuguese Royal Palace.

Built within St. Georges Castle Walls, where the Royal Palace’s kitchens once stood, Solar do Castelo holds memories that cover 8 centuries of the city’s history.

A number of medieval remains where found while the building was being recuperated– as is the case of the rainwater tank – that indicates having belonged to the palace. These medieval objects and artifacts, found during archaeological excavations, are now on exhibition.

Most of the objects belong to various civilizations which present different interpretations of the population that once occupied the city.

This has enriched the historic environment of Solar do Castelo giving the guests a unique opportunity to be in touch with centuries of Lisbon’s History.
